Hi All! Today I wanted to share with you the story behind why I started my blog on chronic illness and disability. It’s not a long read, so get comfy, and let’s dive in.
Why I Decided to Start My Blog:
Dealing with chronic illness and disability is hard. There is so much to learn and navigate. There is a lot of frustration, confusion, and anxiety. On top of this, you’re sick, exhausted, and probably feel terrible from the illness itself.
The struggles and challenges I encountered during my own health journey highlighted some of the many challenges faced by individuals dealing with chronic illness and disability. I decided that I wanted to create something that could help others who were navigating similar rough waters. Thus, “Dealing with Disability” was born.

Bridging the Information Gap:
One of the main reasons I started this blog was to fill a gap in online resources. I noticed that there was a lack of information and support for individuals dealing with my specific condition. One of the driving forces behind my blog is the aspiration to create the resource I wish had existed during my own health journey.
Building an Inclusive Space:
As a blogger committed to accessibility and inclusion, I’ve taken deliberate steps to ensure that “Dealing with Disability” is a platform where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can access and benefit from the content. Here are some of the measures I’ve implemented:
- Alternative Text (Alt Text) for Images: I understand the importance of making visual content accessible to all readers. Alt text descriptions accompany images, ensuring that screen readers can convey the content to those with visual impairments.
- Clear and Readable Layout: Ever visited a website that was a visual mess? I get it, and I want to spare you from that experience. “Dealing with Disability” sports a clean, readable layout with legible fonts and contrasting colors.
- Accessible Language: I’m trying to use language that is easy to understand for everyone! I’m all about keeping things clear and simple. After all, information should be accessible to all.
Acknowledging My Privilege and Sharing the Support:
Now, here’s an important point: While blogging is a fulfilling endeavor, it’s essential to recognize the privilege it entails. Many individuals dealing with chronic illness and disability are too unwell to maintain a blog or engage in online advocacy, and that’s a sobering reality. So, I see it as my responsibility to use this platform to amplify voices and raise awareness for those who may not have the same opportunity.

Creating a Supportive Community:
“Dealing with Disability” is not just about disseminating information; it’s about creating a supportive community where individuals facing health challenges can find solace, share experiences, and receive encouragement. I aim to foster connections that provide emotional support and camaraderie.
A Cathartic Outlet:
Blogging is not only a means to support others but also a cathartic outlet for me personally. It allows me to release the stress, overwhelm, and frustration that often accompany living with chronic illness. Writing provides a space to process emotions, reflect on my journey, and offer insights born from personal experiences.
Fostering a Sense of Purpose:
Beyond catharsis, this blog helps gives me a sense of purpose. It’s not just about sharing my experiences; it’s about making a difference in the lives of others facing similar challenges. It’s about offering a helping hand and being a source of support.

What Lies Ahead:
As I look to the future, I see this blog growing into a thriving community of individuals who uplift and empower each other. I envision more resources, more connections, and more stories of resilience.
In a nutshell, “Dealing with Disability” is more than just a blog; it’s a haven of empathy, advocacy, and commitment to making life a little easier for those with chronic illness and disability. Thanks for being a part of this journey with me!
So, here’s to more shared stories, more connections, and more accessibility. Cheers! 🌟
